ELY CURRICULUM & TRAINING PLANNER
The ELY Curriculum is a comprehensive educational programme focused on energy, climate change, and active citizenship. It has been developed as an integrated learning framework that connects environmental knowledge with social, political, and economic perspectives on the energy transition.
Rather than treating energy as a purely technical issue, the curriculum approaches it as a societal challenge — one that involves questions of participation, access, justice, and collective decision-making. In this sense, it supports a broader understanding of energy as a field where citizens are not only consumers, but active agents shaping systems and outcomes.
Designed as a complete toolkit for trainers and educators, the ELY Curriculum combines scientific knowledge, policy context, and practice-oriented methods. It provides structured content, ready-to-use materials, and step-by-step facilitation guidance, enabling educators to deliver engaging and impactful learning experiences in a variety of settings — from classrooms to workshops and community initiatives.
At its core, the curriculum is built on a participatory and experiential learning approach. Instead of focusing on one-way knowledge transfer, it creates spaces for dialogue, critical reflection, and collective problem-solving. Participants are encouraged to engage with real-world challenges, explore different perspectives, and connect global issues — such as climate change or energy systems — with their own experiences and local contexts. Through interactive methods such as simulations, group work, and hands-on activities, learners develop not only knowledge, but also key competencies, including critical thinking, collaboration, and civic engagement.
In this way, the ELY Curriculum supports individuals in becoming informed, active, and empowered energy citizens, capable of contributing to more sustainable, inclusive, and democratic energy systems.
he ELY Curriculum consists of several complementary components:
